Privacy Policy

What this site collects, why, and what you can do about it.

This policy covers https://solotripideas.com ("this site"). By using the site you agree to what's described here. If you don't, please stop using it.

Who runs this site

Solo Trip Ideas is an independently operated travel website. For any question about this policy or about your data, write to [email protected].

What is collected

Information you give directly. There is no signup form, contact form or account on this site, so there is nothing to fill in. If you choose to email, you provide whatever is in that message. Nothing else is requested.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, this one is served by a web host that records standard technical data in its server logs: IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring page and pages requested. Separately, if you accept cookies, Google Analytics records which pages you view and how long you spend on them. Both are used to understand which guides are useful and to keep the site working.

No account is required to read anything here, and no payment information is ever collected.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. Related technologies (web beacons, pixels, local storage and device or advertising identifiers) do similar jobs and are covered by everything said here about cookies. This site uses them in three ways:

  • Necessary: required for the site to function and to remember your cookie choice. Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage, not sent anywhere.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics, used to count visits and see which pages people read. The Google Analytics script is not loaded at all until you accept; if you choose "Necessary only", it never runs.
  • Advertising: Google AdSense. The AdSense script is present on every page so that Google can verify this site, and it may set or read cookies and advertising identifiers when it loads. No ad units are placed on any page yet and no ads are currently being served here.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Blocking analytics and advertising cookies will not stop you reading anything on this site.

Google Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand traffic patterns. The Analytics script is not loaded until you accept cookies, so choosing "Necessary only" means no Analytics data is collected from your visit at all. Where it does run, Google collects information about your visit (including a randomly generated identifier, approximate location derived from IP address, and the pages you view) and uses it in accordance with its own privacy policy. IP addresses are not stored by this site. You can also block Analytics everywhere by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising

This site is set up to carry advertising through Google AdSense, and the ads.txt file in the site root declares that publisher relationship. No ad units are placed on any page yet and no ads are currently being served. The AdSense script is, however, loaded on every page so that Google can verify the site, and it may set or read cookies and advertising identifiers from the moment it loads. The following therefore applies now, not only once ads appear:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies, including the DoubleClick DART cookie, enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
  • Third-party vendors may also use device and advertising identifiers, pixels and similar technologies to measure ad performance and to build a profile of your interests.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, and out of the DART cookie specifically via the Google advertising technologies page.
  • Google explains its own use of data from partner sites at How Google uses information from sites that use our services.
  • You can opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.com.

Opting out of personalised ads does not remove ads. It means the ads you see will be less relevant to you.

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland

Where consent is the legal basis for setting non-essential cookies, the cookie banner on this site is how that consent is asked for, and declining leaves you with only the cookies needed to make the site work. Google and its ad technology partners act as independent controllers or as processors for their own purposes depending on the service; their handling of your data is governed by their own policies, linked above. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, which makes the banner appear again on your next visit.

Other parties with access to site data

Raptive, an advertising partner, has view-only access to this site's Google Analytics property in order to assess and report on traffic. It cannot modify the property or its configuration. Beyond Google and Raptive, no analytics or advertising data from this site is shared with anyone.

Affiliate links

No page on this site currently contains an affiliate link, so no referral tracking cookie is set by a commercial partner today.

Affiliate links may be added later for accommodation, tours and gear. If they are, this policy will be updated first, the links will be marked where they appear, and any partner cookie used to record that a referral came from here will be described in full before it goes live. See the disclaimer for the editorial side of this.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its processing, to receive a copy of it, and to withdraw consent at any time. Residents of California may also have the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion. This site does not sell personal information.

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. Requests are answered within 30 days.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided information here, please get in touch and it will be deleted.

External links

This site links to other websites: travel advisories, health authorities, booking platforms. Those sites have their own privacy policies and this one does not cover them.

Data security and retention

Reasonable measures are taken to protect the limited information collected, including HTTPS across the whole site. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed. Google Analytics data is retained according to the retention period configured in that property; server logs are retained by the web host under its own schedule.

Changes

This policy may be updated. Any changes appear on this page with a revised date at the top. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
